The American Silver Eagle contains 1 troy ounce of 99.9% pure silver. Often considered one of the most beautiful coins ever minted, the Silver Eagle's design is based on A.A. Weinman's "Walking Liberty", introduced on the 1917 silver half-dollar.

In order to make the Silver Eagle more resistant to scratching and marring, a small amount of copper is added to the silver content to increase the coin's durability. Each Silver American Eagle is guaranteed in weight and purity by the United States Government, and because silver is typically the lowest-priced precious metal, Silver Eagles are affordable for nearly every investor.

The obverse bears the magnificent "Walking Liberty", designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, which first appeared on the U.S. $20 gold piece in 1907 to 1933. The word 'LIBERTY' arc around the top, with 'IN GOD WE TRUST' to the right of Liberty, and the mint date at the bottom.

The reverse displays a proud eagle holding a branch and arrows in its talons, bearing a shield and a banner with the words 'E PLURIBUS UNUM'. Above its head are 13 stars representing the 13 original colonies, with the words 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA' arcing around the top, and '1 OZ. FINE SILVER - ONE DOLLAR' arcing at the bottom.
