The Silver Maple Leaf is minted with 1 troy ounce of .9999 fine silver, the highest among other silver bullion coins which are .999 pure. Because of the increased demand for these affordable coins in 2009, the Mint, which normally packaged the coins in Mylar, began packaging Silver Maple Leafs in tubes of 25.

The Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin has the highest face value of any comparable silver coin at $5 Canadian. With their immediately recognized Canadian Maple Leaf design and the unsurpassed quality of the Royal Canadian Mint, Silver Maple Leafs are the standard by which all other bullion coins are measured.

The obverse of the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf displays a mature Elizabeth II, with 'ELIZABETH II' arcing around the top of the coin, and the denomination, '5 DOLLARS' and the mint date arc around the bottom.

The reverse displays the immediately recognized Canadian Maple Leaf design, with 'CANADA' arcing around the top, the numbers 9999 on each side of the leaf, and the phrase 'FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR' arcing along the bottom of the coin.
