$10 Indians were only struck intermittently between 1907 and 1933 when U.S. gold coins were recalled to the Treasury and millions of gold coins were melted down and destroyed forever. Therefore, the mintages of $10 Indians are extremely limited and they thus became a favorite of collectors.

One of the unique features of this coin is the raised stars on the edge of the coin representing the 46 states of the Union at the time. Two stars were added in 1912 when Arizona and New Mexico were added to the Union.

The obverse features the head of Miss Liberty wearing an Indian war bonnet that reads 'LIBERTY'. Thirteen stars representing the nation's thirteen original colonies arc above Liberty's head. The date appears at the bottom of the coin.

The reverse depicts a proud bald eagle standing among olive branches. The Latin phrase 'E PLURIBUS UNUM' lies to the right of the eagle. The words 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA' and the denomination 'TEN DOLLARS' appear at the top and bottom of the coin, respectively. The motto 'IN GOD WE TRUST' was originally omitted, but later added to the coin in the middle of 1908 by order of Congress.
