French $20 Franc Roosters
The original mintage run of French Roosters issued between 1898 and 1914 are especially rare because millions were melted down during the 1930s when the U.S. outlawed private ownership of gold. Coins with dates from 1907-1914 were officially re-struck at the Paris Mint in 1921 and again from 1951-1960.
Roosters are affordable and are available in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition dated pre-1933. Guaranteed by the French government, the Gallic Rooster they display is a proud emblem of France's fighting spirit of liberty and independence which played an important role as an image of the French Revolution.
