This gold coin was minted between 1888 and 1915. During this time period, three German Emperors, Wilhelm I, Frederick I, and Wilhem II were featured on the obverse of the coin. The reverse displayed eagle insignia of the German Empire along with the date of mintage and the coin's face value of 20 Mark. Each gold 20 Mark coin contains slightly over .23 troy ounces of gold.

The obverse features the bare head of bare head of King Wilhelm II facing right with the inscription: WILLHELM II DEUTSCHER KAISER KÖIG V PREUSSEN.

The reverse of the coin features crowned arms of Germany and a spread eagle. The inscription reads: DEUTSCHES REICH (Date), Along with 20 Mark
